单选题 A survey by Britain’s Association of Teachers and Lecturers has shown that 58% of British teachers believe online plagiarism or copying work from the Internet is a serious problem. It is estimated that more than a quarter of student work includes writing cut-and-pasted directly from a website. In the face of the huge volume of student writing teachers receive, they often find it difficult to spot the cutting-and-pasting. To make matters worse, hundreds of websites provide sample essays and even offer essay-writing services. Ironically, some students are so shameless that they don’t even bother to delete the advertisements from their cut-and-pasted texts. Universities are responding to the problem in two ways. First, teachers search the Internet to uncover the source of the plagiarism. To make their search easier, many high schools and universities are using software that can easily expose plagiarized work. Teachers need only to highlight a block of text they believe was copied, and the software searches the Internet to see if it is already online. Secondly, many universities have adopted strong policies to punish students guilty of plagiarism.
