Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Which Is More Important at University, Accumulating Knowledge or Developing Character? You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below. 1. When it comes to the core of university education, people hold contrasting opinions. Some insist that accumulating knowledge is the top priority on campus. As the cradle of higher learning, universities offer systematic professional courses, academic resources and expert guidance. Students acquire theoretical knowledge, research methods and technical skills here, which are the cornerstones of their future career development and academic exploration. Without solid knowledge, even the most outstanding personal qualities may struggle to translate into practical achievements. Others, however, argue that developing character is more essential. University is not just a place for book learning but also a society in miniature, where students learn to communicate, cooperate and overcome difficulties. Qualities like perseverance, integrity and empathy shape how one interacts with the world and makes decisions. A person with profound knowledge but a flawed character might use their expertise in harmful ways, while a person of good character can always find ways to learn and grow, even if their knowledge is limited at first. From my perspective, knowledge and character are inseparable and equally vital in university. Knowledge provides the "ability" to act, while character guides the "direction" of that action. A truly excellent university graduate is someone who not only masters professional knowledge but also possesses a sound moral compass and strong personal character. Only by nurturing both can students truly benefit from university education and become valuable members of society.
