Job interviews The job interview is the opportunity to show those aspects of your professional life and personality that cannot be written in a CV. There are many things that can ruin your interview. Here are some of the worst reasons why you did not get the job. You were late. This is still one of the most common mistakes candidates make when invited to a job interview. Showing up on time is very important. Find out where the interview will be and how to get there. Give yourself enough time for things like traffic jams or incidents that might make you late. You weren't prepared. It does not help if candidates show up for their interviews and have no idea about what the company does. Do a little research about the company - find out how many people it employs, what are its areas of focus, what are their goals and future plans. You did not look professional. Before you even say the first word, the interviewer will have already judged you on the basis of what you are wearing. Coming to the interview with untidy clothes like old jeans is not going to make the right impression. Nor is chewing gum during the interview. Look professional. Boys should make sure their ties are classic, shoes polished, suits dark and clean, hair brushed and teeth clean. The same goes for girls: dress should be formal and makeup invisible. You failed to answer some questions. You must listen to the interviewer's questions and provide relevant answers. Prepare and practise your answers, but make them sound natural when you actually speak to the interviewer. Your attitude was wrong. Lots of job seekers get many letters of rejection or no answers at all. Then, when they finally get an invitation to go for an interview, they cannot hide how unsure they are. The trick is to simply expect to do great. Give the interviewer a firm handshake when you say hello. This shows that you feel confident (even if you don't.) and will make a better impression. Your body language was wrong. You were restless when waiting for your interview, your handshake was limp and you did not look at the interviewer. Show that you are in control of yourself. This is an important factor for our future employers. During the interview itself don't cross your arms. Sit forward and make eye contact.
